If you want the shortest drive possible.
Grove City (20 min) — technically still in the Columbus metro, but once you're at the end of a quiet dead-end street with a hot tub and a fireplace, it doesn't feel like it. Our Darby Creek Cabin is the pick here.
Hocking Hills (1.5 hrs) — Ohio's signature cabin destination. Old-growth forest, waterfalls, cliffs. Worth it for a weekend, but the crowds on fall color weekends can be rough.
If you want the water.
Indian Lake (1.5 hrs) — 5,000+ acres, boat-friendly, quieter than the Lake Erie beaches. Our Hickory Dickory Dock is waterfront with a private dock.
Alum Creek (40 min) — closer to the city, good for a day trip or overnight, less of a destination.
Lake Erie (2-3 hrs to Cleveland area) — bigger scene, more to do, but a longer drive each way.
If you want the city.
Cincinnati (1.5 hrs) — distinct vibe, great food scene, music venues, Over-the-Rhine. Easy weekend.
Pittsburgh (3 hrs) — more of a stretch, but the bridges and the rivers are something.
Cleveland (2.5 hrs) — rock hall, Cuyahoga, diverse food. Underrated.
If you want a specific experience.
Wine trail: Grand River Valley around Geneva (3+ hrs) is the biggest Ohio wine country.
Amish country: Holmes County (2 hrs) — slow pace, farms, buggies, great cheese.
Hot tub weekend with no agenda: honestly, a cabin or lake house close to home. Less driving, more unwinding.

A weekend away is mostly about what you skip, not what you do. The closer the drive, the more weekend you actually get. That's why our two properties are positioned the way they are — Darby for a quick reset, Hickory for the lake-house version of the same.
Either works for a Friday-Sunday. Both are set up so you can walk in, put your phone down, and start the weekend before you've even unpacked.
